Liévin, halfway from Paris to Athens 

Halfway from the World Championships and the Olympic Games in Athens, the Meeting Gaz de France du Pas-de-Calais will welcome the champions who thrilled the whole world within the Stade de France.

The athletes, whose ultimate goal is to stand out in the Greek capital, have carefully selected the competitions to which they will participate to perfect their preparation. 

Numerous world medallists have thus chosen the Meeting Gaz de France du Pas-de-Calais as an essential stage in their preparation : Eunice Barber, who has scheduled this meeting for a while, could meet again on the jumping track the pretty and talented Carolina Klüft, heptathlon World champion.

The two pole vault world record holders outdoors, Yelena Isinbayeva, and indoors, Svetlana Feofanova, should fight a sky-high duel in which the local champion, Vanessa Boslak, French record holder will try to interfere.

The high jump world champion, the South African Jacques Freitag will face the 2003 best performer the Pole jumper Alexander Walerianczyk.  

A Chinese team will be led by the Asian record holder and world medallist on the 110m hurdles Liu Xiang and the Asian pole vault record holder Shuying Gao.  

The local public’s favorite, Franck Fredericks will bid farewell on the track of his world record.  

And we will of course meet the best French athletes again: the relay World champions, Christine Arron, Muriel Hurtis and Sylviane Felix on 60m, Patricia Girard on 60m hurdles with Linda Ferga, and on the same distance there will be Ladji Doucouré, and finally on the 200m, Leslie Djhone, 5th in the 400m in Paris.
